Thoughts along the path of Ayurveda

Friends, for the past several years I have had a business called Eat Consciously, which was my platform for seeing clients and talking about Ayurveda.  I’ve had a healthy little practice out of my home office which was perfect for these early years with my little kids.  But now something wonderful has happened.  Providence/the Universe/God/and whoever else may have had a hand in it has conspired to bring me a business partner, Ann Podlozny.  She brings so many of the great qualities I lack.  (You can use your imagination on that one.) She came with the dream and the name of Valley Ayurveda, I’ve been setting a metaphorical banquet table for some hoped-for feast.  It feels like the perfect match!

Together, we are opening Valley Ayurveda in downtown Northampton, MA.  We have a big beautiful space in the two floors above Breugger’s Bagels and plan to see clients, hold workshops and cooking classes, teach yoga, and perform all of the various Ayurvedic treatments you’ve heard about.  I am beyond thrilled!  Right now the space is still being developed, but we should be up and running (God willing) in June.  If anyone ever doubted that magic exists, this is proof that it does.  Here I was on my little Eat Consciously branch thinking of how I could make the flowers bloom, and then I look behind me, and my branch is on this huge Valley Ayurveda tree!

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, I hope you’ll join me on this exciting journey as I embark on a bold new venture!  I could be off my nut, but I have every confidence that this business will succeed, and bring profound health to the people who partake of Ayurveda’s gifts.

If you have any inclination this weekend, April 17 + 18, come out to see us at the Whole Health Expo at the Clarion Hotel in Northampton Ma.  C’mon- it’s supposed to be rainy anyway!  I know those Expos can be a little over-the-top sometimes, but I plan to just enter the zone;  maybe I’ll get my aura read, chakras aligned and everything.  I’ll be at booth #713 with all sorts of yummy oils, rejuvenating herbs, and tongue-reading charts.  Come by and say hello!

This is fantastic news, not only for you as a practitioner, but for me as a local person who will be interested in visiting! Congratulations!

Sounds very exciting and I wish you the best in your new practice. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the space you’ve selected is accessible to people who use wheelchairs since there is no elevator. As such it is also not very convenient for those who might use some other type of walking aids due to the need to climb so many stairs. It never ceases to amaze me that people so caring and conscious about health such as yourself are not aware or seem unconcerned about including this growing segment of the population, who might specifically find health benefits from such a practice.

I hope you’ll consider ways you can serve this population at another location and communicate that in your literature.

    Best wishes…

      Hi Linda-

Thank you so much for your reply. You know, I agree with you about the unfortunate accessibility problem. In fact, we are trying to find a way to gain access to the elevator in the building right next door. We have also been talking about a stair lift, though I’m not sure how possible that will be. We spent months looking at spaces that were accessible and were shocked at the dearth of good locations. Northampton is not a accessible town! Especially for people in wheelchairs or going through cancer treatment, those steps are a real barrier.

I have always travelled to clients who are not able to come to me, and I hope that Valley Ayurveda will be no different. Please don’t think that we didn’t consider this population, as we have, and had many difficult decisions to make.

Thanks again for drawing attention to this puzzle, and we will keep you posted as to the solutions we are coming up with!

      Best,
      Brooksley

Congratulations Brooksley!!!! I enjoy your posts and you and I am not sure I can get to the expo but will if I can. I am attending to my 93 year old mom in laws needs as she prepares for the great transition. You inspire me to dream, to care about nutrition and to hope. Question for you. My sister in Haverhill just emailed me to ask about a cleansing plan and was considering one online. DO you have a suggestion or can she consult with you?
    Thanks
    Marion

      Best,
      Brooksley

HEY! Have fun! I remember having a booth at the Body-Mind-Spirit Expo one year and a Reiki master gave me a treatment and man, her body was literally humming! And then there was the tarot reading…and yep. Get in the zone!
