Thoughts along the path of Ayurveda

Is it June already?! June 5, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — brooksley @ 8:45 pm

I know, I know, I really dropped the blog ball.  Frankly, I just didn’t feel like writing, and every time I sat down to write, it felt forced.  I’d rather do things that make me feel good, and not to do things that I am only doing because I ‘should’.   I have a bunch of half-written posts about some interesting ayurvedic concepts, or what was happening at Valley Ayurveda downtown, or how busy my kids were keeping me, but honestly, everything just fell flat.  But recently we have moved into a new phase of work downtown and I feel able and excited to write again about our space and how life is going.

First, let me update about Valley Ayurveda.  Work inside is moving apace after lots of fits and starts.  The walls are up (for the most part), and wired.  The floors have been sanded the ceiling is almost fully painted.  We have picked out and ordered sconces and chairs, vanities, the shower, and all of the treatment equipment.  All of the paint has arrived.   I have been going back and forth about the colors for my office.  The overall space is a beautiful palette of sages and creams, but I wanted something with a little punch in my office.

No!  I’m not keeping the two-tone wall, even though it looks cool.  I still have more colors to try out!

Here’s a pic from reception looking at our two offices, and one from the upstairs yoga/workshop room:
I’ll update with pictures of the treatment rooms as I get more, but you’ve got to see this:  My partner Ann spent some time writing- in sankrit- healing mantras ON THE STUDS OF OUR WALLS!!  These walls will get covered over so no one will see the hundreds of mantras that she lovingly and tirelessly (?) wrote to bring healing consciousness and peaceful energy into the space.  If that’s not a labor of love- for YOU, and our CLIENTS- I don’t know what is.  And by the way, that blue insulation is recycled denim jeans.
We’re also working on our first newsletter, the website, and practicing all of those yummy treatments you’re going to get as soon as we’re open.  You’ve heard me talk about the ahbyanga and the shirodhara, but have you heard about the udvartina and the netra basti?  Check out valleyayurveda.com for a full list of the treatments we will offer.  Aside from the body treatments, there will also be workshops, cooking classes, and yoga.  If you get a chance, pick up a copy of Many Hands- we have an ad on the back cover. Have I mentioned all this before?  Forgive me my repetitions, I’m pretty excited about it all!

Looking forward to seeing what you pick for your wall color! It might be two colors – one for the brick wall and one for the new sheet rock wall? Another mantra, come to think of it, which could be written (or muttered while one puttered about painting, etc.) is a simple one: Hari Om. It is a mantra which Swami Radha always used for “prayer circles” – sending out healing energy to others. And while it resonates with Krishna, Hari means light, a golden color, and refers also to “one who takes away suffering” or one who steals your heart, coming from the Sanskrit verb “haran.” So, devotion, healing, and having one’s pain and suffering removed, as well as en-LIGHT-enment are all implied. Hari Om. Hari Om Hari Om
